🎙️ New Episode Out Now – Redefining Employee Engagement
What if we’ve been measuring the wrong thing all along?
Engagement surveys, scores, KPIs — none of it captures the real reasons people stay, commit, or quietly check out.
The truth? Engagement is personal. And trying to standardize it has left us with strategies that don’t work.
🎧 Listen to the latest podcast — it’s time we rethought the whole thing.
Redefining Employee Engagement: A Personal Journey #66
We don't have a clue about employee engagement. The conversation around engagement is so off the mark—and so misunderstood—I hardly know where to begin. But let’s start with a simple question:
Engaged to what, exactly?
The company?
The people or team?
The job itself?
The future we're working toward?
What does "engagement" even mean in this context? Am I supposed to be emotionally invested in the company? Maybe that’s not possible. But I can be engaged with the team I collaborate with every day. Or maybe I’m not attached to the people or the company at all—but I’m deeply engaged with the work I do.
And what if none of that applies? Maybe I’m not “engaged” in the traditional sense, but I show up, do excellent work, and stay focused—because I’m committed to building my own future. Is that not enough?
Let’s talk about burnout! Go and get a little burned!
I would like to reframe burnout for you because it is not as bad as social media presents it. Nothing is bad or good; it just is. You attach meaning to things based on what others are telling you. I see burnout very differently. It is not the evil you must avoid at all costs!
Here are two videos that will help - one short and a longer one. Enjoy!
